System solutions for system insulation in shipbuilding
Insulation for technical operating system components in cruise liners is subject to extremely strict requirements. The high air humidity here clogs up the systems and materials used in this field. In addition to the environmental compatibility of the insulation materials used, fire safety is another main concern. After all, a fire on the high sea puts the crew and passengers at great danger.
In shipbuilding, Armacell’s halogen-free elastomeric insulation materials are primarily used on the coolant lines for the air-conditioning systems and the refrigeration lines for food storage and drinking water cooling in luxury cruise liners. The materials’ impressive features include not only their outstanding insulation performance and lightweight construction, they also have a low smoke density in the event of fire, as well as low toxicity and corrosiveness of the combustion gases.
Successful Armacell shipbuilding projects:
- Panamax class ships (STX Finland Cruise Oy)
- Voyager class ships (STX Finland Cruise Oy)
- Radiance of the Seas (Meyer Werft)
- Queen Mary II (ALSTOM Chantiers de l’Atlantique)
