LIVING IN THE FUTURE - MOON HABITAT PROTOTYPE
After the successful experience of the awarded LUNARK Habitat in Greenland in year 2020, SAGA Architects and Armacell join their expertise to the benefit of research in Switzerland, for the best analog moon habitat in the world. With their proven performance in hard weather conditions, ArmaPET® and ArmaFlex Ultima® have been retained again for this exciting project.
The ROSIE habitat, the world’s tallest 3D-printed polymer structure with a height of 7 metres, has been designed in Denmark and is installed in the city of St. Gallen, in Switzerland, resulting from a collaboration between Rosenberg Institute and SAGA architects. The habitat will be tested during 10 years with small crews of student analogue astronauts.
LONG-TERM PERFORMANCE OF ARMAFLEX®
The main challenge of this space habitat was to ensure “perfect insulation” by keeping the temperature stable in a warm-humid Dfb continental climate, avoid condensation around steel and provide a vapour barrier while avoiding rain from penetrating the panels. This is the reason why ArmaFlex Ultima and ArmaPET Eco50 have been installed, benefiting from their lightweightness combined with the best insulation performance.

ARMAFLEX ULTIMA - INSTALL IT. TRUST IT.
With ArmaFlex Ultima we have set a new safety standard in technical insulation. Based on the patented ArmaPrene™ technology, ArmaFlex Ultima is the first flexible technical insulation material in the world with fire class BL-s1,d0 and exhibits 10 times less smoke in a fire than a standard elastomeric foam. Thanks to its low thermal conductivity and high resistance to water vapour diffusion, closed-cell ArmaFlex Ultima ensures reliable condensation control and high energy savings in the long-term.
