Armacell receives 2018 Model Plant Award for Safety Management

Guangzhou, 4 Jun 2019 – Armacell, a global leader in flexible foam for the equipment insulation market and a leading provider of engineered foams, received recognition for excellence in safety management from the Chinese government.

The People’s Government of Shilou Town, Panyu District, and the Shilou Town Safety Association awarded 10 out of 724 manufacturing facilities in Panyu for the quality of their safety and risk management processes. The selection criteria in the 2018 audits included advanced experience in safety management processes, good safety records with no major incidents in more than three years, compliance with all national safety regulations and standards, as well as regular communication with the government’s safety departments and active initiation of risk evaluation and safety improvement activities.

During the awards ceremony in presence of Wang Weixiong, Mayor of Shilou Town, David Ye, plant manager of Armacell Panyu, commented,

We are honoured to serve as a model plant for safety management. Our safety and risk evaluation programme has proved successful and we practise efficient Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA), an iterative management method for continuous improvement.

Since the launch of the in-house World-class Armacell Mindset (WAM) programme at the end of 2013 in Panyu, the plant has been actively building a safety-oriented manufacturing practice. Some key principles applied through this programme include Safety First, Kaizen continuous improvement and the ‘Zero’ concept (zero accidents – zero breakdowns – zero complaints). As of 26 May 2019, Panyu has achieved five years’ of manufacturing with zero lost-time accidents. Liam Douglas, Armacell’s general manager of operations, APAC, explains,

We launched our WAM programme with the objective of improving our operational efficiency, health and safety performance by setting benchmark manufacturing standards. Through in-house audits conducted every six months, our facilities systematically optimise their structures and processes. I am delighted that Panyu has achieved an Armacell WAM Bronze Award through successfully implementing world-class manufacturing practices and standards.
