Armacell Americas Headquarters Celebrates Relocation to Chapel Hill, NC

Chapel Hill, NC – November 3, 2015 – Armacell LLC, a global innovator in foam technologies and the world leader in the market for flexible mechanical insulation materials, relocated its headquarters from Mebane to Chapel Hill, NC.

Move was the result of steady growth in corporate organization and manufacturing business.

The move of Armacell’s regional headquarters for the Americas to 55 Vilcom Center Drive, Suite 200 in Chapel Hill was completed in early October. Armacell celebrated its grand opening at a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce staff and ambassadors, local community and business leaders and elected officials on Friday October 30th.

Armacell was pleased to host Chapel Hill Mayor – Mark Kleinschmidt, President and CEO of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce – Aaron Nelson, Chapel Hill Economic Development Officer – Dwight Bassett, and several retired Armacell honorees. “We know that Armacell, as a global company, could have relocated their headquarters anywhere in the Americas. Chapel Hill is proud that Armacell wanted to call our community home,” said Nelson.

The Americas headquarters moved into 10,800 square feet of class A office space in the Chapel Hill 40 office park off Weaver Dairy Road. Armacell, with approximately 275 local employees, has called Mebane home for more than 15 years.

The manufacturing plant opened in Mebane in 1995 as part of Armstrong World Industries. In 2000, Armstrong sold its insulation division and Armacell was founded as a new company. Today, in the Americas, Armacell operates five US manufacturing facilities, one in Canada and in Brazil. In Mebane, Armacell currently has over 444,000 square feet of building space including a manufacturing facility, warehouse, research and development space and offices. Armacell employs more than 2600 people worldwide, 600 in North America and now approximately 225 at its Mebane location.

“Armacell has enjoyed steady growth, and simply outgrew the Mebane offices. We moved about 30 regional headquarters employees to the new Chapel Hill location,” said Jodi Cheek General Manager HR-Americas. “This was a great opportunity to design a workplace that encourages innovation and collaboration.”

The move frees up space in Mebane for expanded Customer Service, R&D and Technical Support teams. The decision to relocate also supports Armacell’s corporate values which include focusing on the Customer Experience, a Commitment to develop and motivate its people, fostering an environment of Empowerment and Accountability, encouraging absolute Integrity and promoting Sustainable growth with positive impacts on the communities in which we live.

“Armacell is pleased to have the opportunity to join the Chapel Hill community,” says Thomas Himmel, Vice President-Americas. “We look forward to this exciting step in the growth of Armacell.”
